Shaykh Al-Bura'ee: Who Preceded Al-Hajuri in Compiling Mistakes of the Messenger Into a Single Lecture?!

In a recent lecture, Shaykh Abdul-Azeez al-Bura'ee answered a question the mistakes of al-Hajuri (mp3) and in the course of his answer he informed about an evil action of Yahya al-Hajuri:

The following is a summary of the audio:

  • The question is about the claim that al-Hajuri's mistakes are ijtihaadiyyah and not in usool (foundations) and that he has recanted from them and that these mistakes are like those which occurred between the Companions.

  • In this claim (if we accept it) there is a witness (from themselves) that al-Hajuri fell into mistakes, and that speech against him was not empty, but that mistakes occurred. So when they come along and say, al-Hajuri recanted, then it is said: Why are you criticizing those who criticized him then?

  • Quote, "For example, his compiling together, in a single lecture, and in front of the common people, six mistakes of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam). Who preceded al-Hajuri in compiling the mistakes of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) and in front of the common-people of Hadramaut? The people went against him, reviled him and criticized him and they took this speech to Shaykh al-Fawzaan, and he spoke in this matter (see here). Yes. They said, "He has recanted", with one approach they say "He recanted" and with another approach they post research pieces to establish that the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) makes mistakes. Why are you posting research pieces about that then [if he has allegedly recanted]? ..."

  • Quote, "...and in the book Ahkaam al-Jumu'ah he lists over ten mistakes of the Companions, who preceded you in that?"

  • Quote, "Al-Hajuri says the Messenger made a mistake, but when you say al-Hajuri made a mistake, then woe be to you!"

  • The Shaykh rebuts the claim that the Shaykhs of Yemen are jealous of al-Hajuri, and says this is false and is oppression (for this to be said).

  • Quote, "The criticisms against al-Hajuri are clear and it is upon him to repent to Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic."

  • Quote, "O brothers, the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) prohibited a woman from reviling a camel, she cursed a camel, do you think it would be pleasing that a scholar amongst the scholars should be reviled? And after it the revilement of al-Hajuri and his companions upon the Scholars, it is not a knowledge-based criticism, it is revilement, abuse ... the type that comes from common people... in addition to judging (Scholars) with nifaaq, zandaqah, dalaal and inhiraaf and other than that."

It's a short and powerful piece, well worth listening to and reflecting upon (mp3).
